Letter from Jennifer, 3rd grade
It has been incredible to see the outpouring of love and support Bow has received since we first laid eyes on him back in May. The image was shocking to many – a cat with an arrow in his face, exiting in his back. We had no idea how his tale of survival and endurance would touch so many of you.
It seemed that anyone who heard about Bow was so touched by his story. In the first week, local musician and big animal lover Casey Stratton was so inspired by Bow’s story that he wrote and recorded his Song for Bow, which helped to raise money and awareness about Bow.
That was just the beginning. Bow’s Facebook page has nearly 5000 fans. All of them have left messages to Bow on his wall.
If that wasn’t enough, this week we had out heart’s melted again when we received a pack of letters to Bow from the third graders at Cesar E. Chavez Elementary school.
Students called Bow their Hero, said he was a “strong and courageous cat,” and hoped he would getter better soon.
Their teacher, Mary Mast, says that “they learned that no matter the age or the circumstances, everyone has the capabilities to make a difference.” And while the kids have very little to give, they handed over “every nickle, dime, and quarter without hesitation” raising $52.00 for Bow’s care.
Mary says that her hope for her students is that “they see in themselves, a kinder and wiser human being” and that they will be “watchful of all creatures that need to be treated in a humane and loving way for many years to come.” We can’t think of a better way to educate kids about kindness to all creatures. She says that her students think about Bow every day, and they all wish that he has a great life. If that isn’t enough to have your eyes well up, they also took a “pinky” oath – that together they will continue to love, care, and honor all animals today, and for the rest of their lives! Now we all now how important pinky oaths are, and so it is with confidence that we know her kids will go on to take care of a every creature.
Like Song for Bow says, “we’re all here for you now and we won’t let you down” Bow.
